When to Plant
Plant spring-flowering bulbs in fall, once temperatures begin to cool and the soil is still workable. Planting in fall gives bulbs time to establish roots before winter so they’re ready to bloom when spring arrives.
How to Plant
Choose a well-drained location and plant bulbs with the pointed end facing up. A good rule of thumb is to plant bulbs about 2–3 times as deep as the bulb is tall. Cover with soil and water thoroughly after planting.
Why Plant in Fall?
Spring-flowering bulbs need a period of cold temperatures to prepare for blooming. Planting them in fall allows them to go through that natural winter dormancy so they can emerge and flower in spring.
