Hostas: The Ultimate Shade Perennial
Hosta are one of the easiest Shade Perennials to grow. They’re an incredibly versatile plant that comes in endless variations of colors, sizes, and shapes. In fact, there are over 10,000 registered hosta varieties in the world! We offer just under 100 varieties of hosta. That means we’re a sure to have the perfect one (or dozen) for your yard.
Please remember that hostas are shade loving plants. Their leaves will burn in full sun, but most varieties can handle a few hours of morning sun without issue. We strongly recommend against planting hostas in direct afternoon sun that lasts longer than 2 hours.
Planting Tips! Do deer love to munch on your hostas? Then you oughta try a product called Liquid Fence! It works very well and you’ll only need to reapply a few times per summer. Also consider installing large plantings of Baptisia, Anemone, Brunnera, Hellebore, Allium, and Nepeta (the last two grow surprisingly well in low light). Deer typically hate the smell and texture of those plants.
