Vines

Perennial vines are unique problem solvers of the plant world. Do you have a narrow area that needs a plant? How about a clematis! Tired of a boring old fence? Try out a honeysuckle. Do you need privacy but can't fit a shrub or tree? Cover up that unattractive view with a fast growing trumpet vine. Whether they have a purpose beyond their beautiful flowers, perennial vines are wonderful additions to any yard.

Pro Tips! Have you struggled with Clematis in the past? Well then, these tips are for you!

1. Your first step is to check out the signs above our Clematis section. You'll notice there are 3 different pruning types. Make sure you save your tag since proper pruning is important!
2. Site selection will make or break your Clematis. They need 6 or more hours of direct sun to thrive and flower. Also, avoid downspouts or wet areas. 
3. Plant your Clematis 2-3 inches deeper than it is in the pot. We know that sounds weird, but we promise it helps!
4. After planting, dig a semi circle, 2 inch deep trench in front of the Clematis. Then sprinkle 2 tablespoons of bonemeal into the trench. Now you backfill and gently "water in" your Clematis. 
5. Clematis needs friends! They prefer to have their roots shaded by other plants. Try planting a Mounding Sedum, Allium, or even small shrubs in front of it. 
6. Only water your new Clematis once the soil has dried out. Depending on your soil, this might be 2-4x per week.
7. Mulch! Hardwood mulch is always best.
